| On Sunday, May 27, 2007 Rolling Thunder started in Dumfries to go on their "Ride To The Wall" (the Vietnam Memorial in DC)
Thousands gathered Sunday at East Coast Harley Davidson in Dumfries,
Virginia, along the streets of the town, to move out for Rolling
Thunder's Ride to the Wall. This is the 20th anniversary of the Rolling
Thunder organization's Memorial Day event held in Washington, D.C.
Rolling Thunder events honor our nation's veterans and to raise public
awareness of prisoners of war and those missing in action. Sunday's
event, was estimated to draw about 100,000 motorcyclists. The riders
motor through Dumfries on their way up Interstate 95 ultimately
proceeding to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
Dumfries-Triangle Volunteer Fire Department members assisted in area
activities, visitor information, and traffic control. The focal point of
the event was a static display using Truck 503 and Tower 513 which
created an eighty foot flagged-archway to welcome participants. As
hundreds looked on, the police motorcade led the thousands of thunderous
motorcycles north towards their next stop at the Pentagon. |
