| On Friday evening at 10:12 PM, initial units were called to Box 1711 for an auto accident at Spriggs Road and Abilene Way. A518 and W513 were dispatched while M517A and E517 completed a medical call nearby. As E517 cleared, dispatch reported additional information stating 2 vehicles were involved with possible entrapment.
A full rescue assignment was then sounded. E513 arrived on scene with PWC Police confirming 1 entrapment, with one ALS and possibly two BLS patients. E517 arrived with A518 and TW513 moments later.
A jump line was pulled from E517 while E513 and TW513 began to stabilize the vehicles. BC507 [A/C Hoffman] arrived and assumed command requesting an additional engine and a helicopter. TW513 was assisted by R510 with the extrication while M552 provided patient care.
More bystanders and family members arrived to the scene where A518 was immobilizing and loading another patient for transport. As additional firefighters began to assist with the extrication, an engine fire erupted while the patient was still entrapped.
E517's crew quickly put their line in-service and immediately extinguished the small engine fire while crews still worked to free the patient. As the fire was extinguished and other hazards mitigated; the patient was then loaded and transported to the LZ handled by W518.
E517 remained on scene and assisted the Crash Investigation Unit officers with lighting, hazards, and traffic control. All units were clear at 12:10 AM.
