| On Sunday September 8th 9 representatives of DTVFD arrived at Sudley Tower for the Annual Stair climb held in honor of the Brave 343 FDNY firemen. This event has been held for the past 3 years for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice on September 11th 2001. All participants arrived for check in at 7:30am and the stair climb commenced at exactly 8:46am. It was at that exact moment that the first hijacked plane hit the North tower.
Sudley Tower is 9 stories tall and the participants climbed the tower 12 times to symbolize the 110 stories in the World Trade Center. Stonewall Jackson did a great job preparing the tower for the climb by having water and gatorade for the climbers and fans in the hallways. Climbers ranged from people in running gear, Military flak jackets, American Flags draped over shoulders, and of course Firefighting gear. The climb was tough and challenged everyone there, but it also brought out the camaraderie and sense of pride we all share. Many people cheered on or helped members from their department but also those they have never met prior to the climb.
All the DTVFD climbers wore a picture of Captain Stanley "Pepper" Johnson or shirts he left for the department members. These were used to honor him and as motivation to complete the climb.
Plans for next years climb are already in the works, Good Job everyone!!!!
