| During the weekend of June 22-23, operational members of DTVFD who were in the process certifying their final Driver / Pump Operator (DPO), release participated in 12 hours of scenario based testing.
From Saturday into Sunday these candidates were instructed and evaluated on various techniques by senior DPOs and Staff Officers. Candidates for this weekend's training have already completed months of classroom instruction, on-the-road driving evaluations and several written examinations approved by PWCFRA and VA Dept. of Fire Programs.
After final release, these drivers are qualified to pump at emergency calls related to fire suppression and rural water supply operations.
This training also provides the opportunity for other firefighters to apply practical skills and techniques to become released as Lead Firefighters and complete their skills checklist.
This evaluation certifies that the individual firefighter or "Third" has the leadership potential and knowledge to operate the many hoselines and various tools on the fire engine in a proficient manner.
These individual's tireless dedication and hard work for the betterment of themselves and the department is instrumental in the advancement of the DTVFD fire service mission and protection of life and property in our local community.
Special thanks go out to all of the instructors and assistants which contributed to the success of these endeavors. |
