On Saturday, Engine 503 was dispatched to an outside fire on Interstate 95. Initial reports indicated that trees were on fire. While enroute, E503 requested additional support due to conflicting reports of the fire's location. Engine 523 added on to the call shortly afterwards and met with E503 at the 151.4 mile marker, southbound.

Upon arrival E503 found a large utility pole on fire with downed wires nearby. Due to dry conditions and wind gusts Tanker 503 was also added for additional water and to prevent the fire from spreading. Battalion Chief 507, Assistant Chief 503, and Battalion Chief 531 also added to the call.

The scene was released to State Police and Dominion Power once the fire was out.

Within minutes of clearing the scene and filling with water, E503 was dispatched back to the interstate for a car fire. E503 arrived on the scene at the 151.9 northbound with an engine compartment involved.

After a quick knockdown, firefighters passed the hoseline to the recruits and trained them on vehicle fires.

Later that day crews finished the afternoon with more hose drills and deployments of larger diameter hoses.
