| The weekend shift started out slow with an occasional call here and there. Around midday the volume seemed to rise as more and more citizens ventured outside to enjoy the nice weather.
At 2:38 PM, Medic 503 alerted PWC Communications with priority traffic of a motorcycle accident on Interstate 95. A 4 door sedan possibly clipped a motorcycle causing the rider to be thrown from the middle lane across to the left shoulder of the highway. The original report given by M503 was that the rider was unconscious and they requested a helicopter.
Additional units were dispatched to assist with the accident and to set up the landing Zone. Interstate 95 was shut down and Engine 503 set up the LZ. Helicpter Medstar-2, touched down without incident shortly afterwards. The patient did regain consciousness prior to being loaded into the helicopter. The patient was flown to Fairfax Hospital and units cleared and reopened Interstate 95 at 3:17 PM.
Sunday was just as steady with EMS calls and an outside fire. The weekend shift ended with one last auto accident at 11:26 PM Sunday night. E503 responded to a 3 vehicle accident at the intersection of Dominion Drive and Curtis Drive. A Chevrolet appeared to have struck a parked car causing that vehicle to hit another parked car. The Camaro was the only occupied vehicle and there was only 1 patient.
Once on scene the intersection was shut down and the patient was evaluated and hazards were mitigated. The patient refused transport stating that there were no injuries. The scene was then transferred to Dumfries Police and DTVFD units cleared at 11:38 PM. |
