| On Wednesday, Rescue 503 was staffed with Truck 503 temporarily out of service. The need for a specialty unit was in order for the south-east end of the county. Just prior to the beginning of Crew 4's shift Dumfries-Triangle Rescue Squad provided DTVFD the use of Rescue 503.
Rescue 503 was staffed by Lt. Reha, and firefighters Gudaitis, Hewlett, Kim, and Santiago.
After a few routine calls, Rescue 503 proved that it still had what it takes to get the job done. Special thanks go to Chief Baum and Assistant Chief Dickison from Company 3 Rescue for offering their apparatus for use.
Rescue 503 is a customized heavy duty apparatus which was built by E-One in September of 1987 on a Volvo-White chassis. This unit offers a full compliment of rescue, extrication, ladders, and ventilation equipment and was highly welcomed as a temporary solution for a specialty apparatus.
This walk-in style rescue has a Detroit Deisel engine with a heavy duty Allison transmission. It was one of the first in county which replaced 1960 and 1970's era crash trucks and light duty squads. This vehicle was placed in service in 1988 and has served the citizens of Prince William County ever since. |
