| After a quiet start to the month of May, this weekend also began somewhat slow. On Saturday, Crew 4 began the morning with a Public Education event at the PNC Bank "Open House" in Montclair. Many turned out for the festivities which included free food, informational packets, video racing, photos, and various activities for the kids. A local radio station was on-hand to provide entertainment as well as one of our own newer members which found his new calling as Sparky the Fire Dog. Engines 17, 3, and Truck 3 all made appearances at the event along with DTVFD Fire Chief Miles Young.
Later that afternoon, as it began to rain, the call volume steadily increased. Multiple fire alarms calls for the Truck and Engine were closely followed by EMS runs with various medic units. As roads seemed to become slick several auto accidents also occurred all around the county. From fender-benders to overturned vehicles with ejections; the calls kept right on coming throughout Sunday.
Company 3 ran multiple residential fires within our response area without major injuries or major property loss to the homeowners. As more and more rain came, so did more and more calls.
Over the 48 hour shift, Truck 3, and Engine 3, ran over 25 calls with the majority taking place on Sunday. As the rains and call volume once again decreased, Company 3 personnel found a few hours of rest just before the workday on Monday. |
