| At approximately 5:30 PM on Sunday, Engine 503B was dispatched for an auto accident just South of Quantico Marine Base (Main gate) on U.S. Route 1. Upon arrival, there were two vehicles in the southbound lanes which appeared to be involved in a head-on collision with an entrapped patient in each vehicle. E503B officer (Lt. C. Brothers) established "Triangle Command" while assessing the scene, as E503B's crew (J. Hartman, A. Gaughan, B. Moser, and J. Lyons) began assessing patients and securing hazards.
Truck 531 from Quantico arrived on the scene and was directed to the northbound vehicle to begin patient extrication. Prince William County Police then closed and secured both northbound and southbound lanes of Route 1 of all traffic. Soon afterwards, Battalion Chief 507F (Chief M. Young) arrived on the scene and assumed command.
BC507 then requested that two MedEvacs be dispatched to the scene. A short time later Rescue 502 and Tower 512 arrived on the scene and proceeded to the southbound vehicle to begin extrication of the other patient. Medic 503 arrived along with Medics 531, 517B, and Ambulance 512, and assisted in patient stabilization during the extrication and transport of both patients to the landing zone.
After the extrications were completed, BC507F moved to the LZ established by Engine 510, which was located at Quantico National Cemetery. Engine 503B's officer resumed command at the scene to oversee safety operations. Helecopter LifeEvac 2 and Helicopter MedStar 2 transported both patients to Inova Fairfax Trauma Unit in serious condition.
All units were returned to service with the exception of E503B who remained on-scene to assist with lighting for the PWCPD Crash Investigation Unit. E503B later cleared the scene at 7:54 PM. |
