| The morning of Sunday November 23 turned into a busy one on the Interstate, starting with a car fire around 3 am, with E503B arriving on the scene with one well involved at the 149 mm Southbound. The second incident occurred around 6 am also in the Southbound lanes prior to Joplin Rd. Initial reports were stating that a subject was trapped and a vehicle on fire. AC 503 arrived on the scene with one well involved. Witnesses reported someone still trapped inside the second vehicle. A quick search did not locate anyone inside or around the vehicle which was now well involved. A patient from the first vehicle had been removed by bystanders prior to the arrival of units. BC 507(Young) arrived on scene as well as Medic and Ambulance 503. Command was established and AC 503 requested an additional engine for suppression and a helicopter and additional engine was requested for the first patient. Engine 511 and Rescue 508( completing fills for DCVFD) arrived on scene and a second line was pulled to knock down the remaining fire. Subsequent witnesses came forward and advised that the occupant that could not be located had gotten out of the vehicle and left the scene. Units remained on scene until approximately 07:00 picking up.
About an hour later an accident was reported northbound near PW Parkway with a vehicle striking the guardrail. Engine 503B and BC 507 arrived and shut down the interstate to treat and transport 4 patients. |
