| At 04:34 Units were dispatched to a reported auto accident with a vehicle into a building. The address given was for the BP gas station at the corner of Jeff. Davis and Dumfries Rd. Engine 503 arrived with a crew of 4 ( Lt. Redmon OIC, DPO Campbell, FF's Fricke and T. Johnson) and began to assess the scene. First report was a single vehicle into the gas pumps with damage to the main building as well as a collapse of the canopy onto the car. Upon further investigation it was determined that there was a single occupant fatality who had been ejected from the vehicle. Battalion 507 ( Captain Martin) arrived on the scene and established command. Crews from the Engine secured the gas pump shut offs and pulled an 1 3/4 inch protection line as a precaution. The rest of the utilities were secured and lighting was set up. HazMat Officer 502 was notified as well as the Fire Marshalls office and building officials due to the major structural damage. Once all was secured the scene was released to Prince William County Police to complete their investigation.
After the county police finished their investigation units were recalled to the scene to stand by while the car was removed. Engine 503, Wagon 512, Rescue 510, Ambulance 510 and Rehab 501 under the command of AC 503 ( Hoffman) established a water supply and laid a foam blanket to prevent any sparking and ignition of vapors. Units then evacuated the immediate area of all media and non essential personnel while the awning was lifted from the vehicle by a crane and removed. The structural inspection of the area showed sheared areas of steel and multiple areas of separations. Once this operation was completed all units were released and the scene turned over to the contracting company to complete demolition. |
