| On Saturday April 19th 2008, we joined over 500 people that came out that morning for the First Annual Kyle Wilson Walk for Fitness 10K. There were family, friends and firefighters, volunteer and career from throughout the area and abroad to help kickoff the first annual walk and to celebrate the life of the 24-year-old firefighter. The walk started at the Potomac Nationals stadium and ended at the Buckhall Fire Department, Station 16. Bob Wilson, Kyle's father and family led the walk. The proceeds from the 10K walk will benefit the George Mason University School of Recreation, Health and Tourism Scholarship. There were several walkers who decided to run the walk. There were water stations on the route and refreshments, pizza and more at the finish line. Several shuttle vans and buses returned the walkers to the Potomac Nationals Stadium. The 24-year-old firefighter died a year ago in a house blaze, the first line-of-duty death in the history of the Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue. Wilson was assigned to Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Station 12. He died on the morning of April 16, 2007; while he was searching a burning house on March Overlook Drive in Woodbridge. |
