On Wednesday, February 6, 2008 around 1900, Engine 17 responded to an ALS auto accident, reported to be head on vehicle into a guardrail. Upon arrival the crew (D/OK. Davis, OIC P. Reha, FF B. Donaldson, FF J. Hartman, Recruit S. Jones) confirmed one patient with altered loc. With help from a PWC Medic unit, it was determined that due to the mechanism of injury and loss of consciousness the best course of action was to fly the patient to INOVA Fairfax Hospital where the patient could receive the most specialized care in the area.

Engine 517 was also the LZ pumper at a local high school where Air Care 2 arrived to transport the patient. Thanks to an enormous amount of teamwork between crews this incident ran very smoothly.

Units: E517, BC507, M513

Mutual Aid: AirCare2
