On Saturday, around midnight, Engine 503 responded to an outside fire in the vicinity of Potomac Crest Drive and Fuller Heights Road. Upon arrival the crew noticed a burning smell and a haze in the woods behind some houses. The engine crew split into two groups to investigate the location and source. After finding the source it was determined that the fire was caused by a large tree branch which fell across some power lines. Although there were heavy rains earlier in the day, it was determined a hoseline should be pulled to protect a shed which was located under the sparking lines and falling embers. A homeowner advised that there were several cans of fuel and other combustibles located inside. For over an hour the engine crew periodically saturated the shed and surrounding area until the power company could secure the lines. Once repairs were made, the engine went back into service around 1:30 AM.
