At 0100, on Friday, October 07, units were dispatched to a townhouse fire in the 14000 block of Winding Loop in Woodbridge. OWL Engine 512 marked on the scene with fire on side A of a three level end unit townhouse. E512 held at the door and fought the fire while waiting for additional units. Engine 523 arrived moments later and proceeded with a line to side C where they encountered heavy fire in the basement extending to the first floor. Battalion 505 and 506 arrived on the scene and established Winding Loop Command at 0105.

Both units battled the fire while Rescue 510 and Tower 512 conducted interior searches and E510 assumed the RIT assignment. The fire was knocked down on both levels within minutes of arrival. FM529 and the gas company were requested to assist with the scene.

Due to the interior damage to the floor joist, units restricted personnel movement on the first floor and held the attack lines in-place during overhaul to accessible areas. Preliminary reports suspect that the home was vacant at the time of the fire and possibly inhabited by vagrants.

At the time of this posting the Fire Marshal was still on the scene conducting an investigation and command was releasing other units as they became ready. Earlier in the day it was reported that units were in the area for a possible outside gas leak but the calls were unrelated according to officials on the scene.

More details and photos of the call will be posted as they become available.
