On Saturday evening approximately 2205 hrs. W503 and M553 were dispatched to a possible double shooting. Units staged very briefly until Prince William County Police had the scene secure. As units were staging and enroute further information revealed to the units responding was that a mother and infant had both been shot, with the mother having been shot in the head. As soon as W503 and M553 arrived on scene M553 requested another medic unit. When speaking with the police about any other possible patients they confirmed one DOA from several gunshot wounds behind the apartment complex. After a size-up and patient assesment it was determined that the infant had not received any gunshot wounds, unlike the mother who had sustained one to the face. The medic unit immediately called for a helicopter and E512 was dispatched to handle the landing zone. W503 (Lt. R. Gudaitis, FF/EMT N. Leonard, FF G. Taylor and R/H M. Thompson) aided in packaging and placing the patient in the back of the medic unit before transporting to the LZ.
