| On Sunday, units were dispatched to an outside fire near Point Pleasant Lane in Dumfries. Initial reports came from a nearby housing area with callers seeing smoke and ashes in the area. Upon further investigation Engine 523 located the fire adjacent to the I-95 in a wooded area off Interstate Drive. E523 arrived on the scene of a large brush fire and requested a Battalion Chief with additional resources. DTVFD Chief and Brush 503 also joined the response with other brush units from Dale City and Quantico Marine Corps Base. Initial crew's were forced to walk-in approximately ½ mile to reach the fire. They were able to control the spread of the fire before brush units arrived. After approximately 2 hours, the fire was reported as Extinguished with approximately 25 firefighters on the scene. The fire burned nearly 3-4 acres in an unoccupied area of woods with houses and apartments visible a short distance away. No injuries or property loss was reported and the fire was not suspicious in nature. B503 returned a few hours later to check for hot-spots and add water to the unburned surrounding areas. |
