At approximately 12:30 a.m., Monday morning, tones dropped for a reported house fire in Company 3's first due. While responding, units were told by Prince William County Communications that the homeowner advised that the fire was in the basement.
Assistant Chief 503 arrived on the scene to find smoke showing from the front and the rear of the house and advised that there was a working basement fire.
Engine 503 arrived and laid five inch supply hose out from the end of the court to the house. Engine 503's personnel then split into two crews due to the location of the fire. The first crew with the primary attack line went to the basement from the rear of the house. The secondary attack crew stretched a line into the front of the house to the top of the stairwell that led to the basement on the first floor to prevent fire spread.
As the primary crew made entry into the basement they located the fire which was contained to the rear of the basement. The fire was quickly extinguished without further spread to the rest of the house.
Units were held for salvage and overhaul of the home and cleared as directed by command.
Do to the suspicious nature of the fire; Engine 503 remained on the scene to assist the Fire Marshall's Office until approximately 5:00 a.m.
